In Search of Coastal Wolves

In July 2026, we travelled to the northern coast of Vancouver Island in search of coastal wolves, sometimes referred to as “sea wolves.” Over three days, we were fortunate to have multiple sightings of 14 individual wolves, including five very young, playful pups.  We also had memorable encounters with humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, sea otters and countless birds.  Guided by local First Nations guides, we gained a deeper appreciation for the wildlife, landscapes and culture of this remarkable part of coastal British Columbia.  A bonus side-trip allowed us to view some spectacular eagle activity as they fished for herring.  This gallery captures some of the highlights from an unforgettable wildlife adventure.
