Canadian Arctic
Living Out On The Ice - April 2025

This gallery shares highlights from an epic nine-day adventure on the sea ice of Baffin Bay, off the northeast coast of Baffin Island in Nunavut, Canada. After flying into the northern community of Pond Inlet, we teamed up with our expedition leader and experienced Inuit guides and travelled by snowmobile and qamutikk out onto the frozen bay.  For eight nights, we camped in unheated tents with temperatures ranging from –14°C to –20°C. The goal was to observe and photograph polar bears and Arctic foxes in their natural environment — and we were fortunate to encounter both.

While the photos document the landscape, wildlife, and a bit of camp life, the full experience — the environment, the quiet, and the sense of place — goes beyond what images alone can show.
